Early Life
Born in Delhi, British India, Sarfaraz Ahmed Rafiqui was among the first batch of officers to join the Pakistan Air Force.
Military Career
As Commanding Officer of No. 5 Squadron, Rafiqui was known for his leadership, courage, and tactical expertise.
Key Operations
Battle of Halwara
September 6, 1965
Leading a formation of three F-86 Sabres against Halwara airbase, Rafiqui destroyed one enemy aircraft. Despite his own aircraft being hit and on fire, he continued to lead his squadron and engaged enemy Hunters, shooting down one before being shot down himself.
Legacy
PAF Base Rafiqui (formerly Shorkot Air Base) was renamed in his honor. His leadership and sacrifice continue to inspire PAF officers.
